Figlet is born!

It seems cruel to make those of you who aren’t following me on facebook to wait until the Nov IRL post (which will be done in similar fashion to September and October, covering the last 10….I mean 11 weeks….of pregnancy) to find out that Paige Raylene was born!
The stats for those of you that care about such things:
- 10/18 9:58pm
- 7 pounds 14 ounces
- 13 1/2″ head
- 20″ length
Absolutely perfectly average.
Unlike my labor and delivery which was nothing short of miraculous for a first time mom – being shorter then average (but more intense then average), with no smooshed lady bit parts at the end (I swear that’s as graphic as this post gets), which means I feel GREAT.
Too great actually. It’s only with a lot of effort am I staying out of the saddle and off my feet.
DO NOT OVER DO IT is my motto and one I’m desperately trying to adhere to, since hemorrhaging, damaging my pelvic floor, or developing some sort of hip cartilage inflammation is not something that is on my agenda. I’ve been remarkably patient over the last couple of weeks, being able to see the end in sight, so now is not the time to throw all that away. I did dream last week that I was running on one of my favorite backpacking trails (that also boasts of an organized 50K) and it was so real and I can’t wait to get back out there…but I can be smart about it.
Paige is doing great, is actually a lot of fun, and is so easy right now. I think the newborn stage is highly under-valued. So I’m appreciating the sh*t out of the good stuff and refusing to get stressed or overwhelmed at the hard stuff. Basically the same thing I try to do no matter what “life stage” I’m at. So be grateful, find a way to have fun, and don’t have regrets. It won’t always be this easy and of course there will be times that I won’t be this chipper and positive…but I’ll write about those too because life reflected as it is is what we do here on this blog.
awww… and what a beautiful new life you & Matt have created! Congratulations & happy Baby!
Congratulations! And because I am allowed to be smug on your behalf, “shorter than average, more intense than average and no smooshed lady bits” = “went into hospital remarkably fit for a pregnant lady and already pretty good at endurance events”. (I speak as someone who also had short labours and was told by my OBGYN “You’re really good at this – when are you going to do it again?”. I still reckon running/riding/walking had a lot to do with it. The only Ironwoman I know has the same experience.
They told me exactly the same thing!!!!!! Including the “when are you doing it again” . Lol. I’m trying so hard not to be smug because I know it could have just been a fluke, but it definitely wasn’t the most painful thing I’ve done and at no point during it did I think “I’m never doing this again”. It was just….a thing. And I do REALLY wonder how much of my fitness and background contributed to the positive experience. Especially because my family history should have me pegged closer to 24 hours of labor.
From the start of “I’m crampy and labor will be happening tonight” to having the baby was 9 1/2 hours. O got to the birth center 5 hours before she was born and was admitted 4 hours before she was born. definitely not the 24-32 I was expecting and planning for!
Congratulations on a happy, healthy baby & delivery! She’s lovely.
Congratulations.. mommyhood looks good on you!
Congrats, you both look beautiful!
Congratulations! You look so beautiful together!
