Trim update – 2 days post

In my trim post 2 days ago, I mentioned that I like to look at the hoof a couple of days after a trim to see how it’s responding to what I did. Here’s an update
Yes, the hoof really will respond that fast. Ideally I’d take pics closer to the 5 day mark, but these days I’m never completely sure whether it will be days or a week until I see my ponies again, so best not to wait.
Here’s a hind hoof (the one with the injury)
What I see: as I suspected additional sole really wants to come out near the heels and there’s a suspicious chunk lower down in front of the quarter that sole could come out and says the hoof capsule could go shorter. But it doesn’t want to easily to come out so it stays in for now until it chooses to exfoliate better. You can see that even though the wall and a thin rim of sole was rasped to the same height, there is more of a difference now and the sole slopes away from the wall nicely, supporting the wall at the toe. Overall looks good and I’ll probably touch it up in about 2-3 weeks.
Other hind pics didn’t turn out today, but similar results except no sign of more sole wanting to come out.

She’s got really fantastic feet. You do a great job with managing them too
I am so freakin lucky with her feet. (And our climate). I do feel I’ve come a long ways in my trimming. I was looking at some pictures of my trims from just a couple years back and was wincing at the lateral medial balance and how I wasn’t taking the heels back enough. Makes me feel good that I’m continuing to improve.
