What I did…when ML was doing cool stuff

While I was giving myself (and my sister) a runners high…..
ML was learning to cross bridges.
I won’t even dignify the below with commentary. But while I was doing that thing that my sister dragged me to…..
ML was being inventive by finding ways to scratch her butt on a tree while tied.
While I was spending quality family time (I’ve been able to catch and visit and see new little nephews and nieces for the first time in FOUR years)….
ML was learning how to wear a saddle!
How cool is it that I can be out of town and yet my horse is actually doing something? It’s the most novel thing EVER.
ML looks so grown up!
Very cool! Go Mel and ML!
Tina, I agree! It’s sorta like Tess – it was so confusing at first because I couldnt see the baby because the adult kept being superimposed over it and vice versa.
ML looks amazing, but so do you, in costume at a Con, awesome!
You and sister could be twins! Glad your catching up on family stuff. Looks like you had fun . ML saddled?? HOLY COW! That was really fast! and she looks pretty darn relaxed about the whole thing. Go ML! In the standing tied picture, it actually looks like the scoop shovel is her mouth and she is shoveling! I had to look twice!
LOL – Loreleigh looked like my other sister (redgirl) until she was out of high school, got contacts instead of glasses and got in shape. And then everyone (including me) was like…..WOW. We look EXACTLY the same. We get the twin comment a lot and even *I* have to look twice to see who is who in some pictures – especially back packing when we share gear and sometimes one or both of us is wearing glasses. Sorta fun :).
I just took a look at the pic (with the shovel ) and you are right! I totally should have noticed and captioned the photo.
I talked to the trainer about whether ML had any red flags yet, and how she was to be saddled and the feedback was absolutely no red flags. She is a dominant horse (which I knew), but is not mean, dishonest, or sneaky. She was 100% fine with the saddle and was only a little goosey when asked to canter with it for the first time. It’s going to be so nice to get back into town and play with Amber and ML – we already have several dates scheduled and then I can actually give you guys first hand feedback. Riding my baby horse seems less scary as I see her handle new, isn’t-this-supppose-to-be-scary stuff so confidently. To be honest I’m STILL waiting for the other shoe to drop with this horse. Surely there has to be another side to her I just haven’t seen yet? Although our battle with internal PF might be that “cost”.
She’s dominant in the way that Farley is dominant, instead of the “bitchy mare” dominance that can be so annoying where you are ALWAYS haveing to reestablish the “order” of things. So much similarlity, and yet refreshing differences between those 2 horses. I’m feeling incredibly blessed right now.
That bitchy dominance thing is the pits. Maggie was similar in that fashion, which was part of why I decided to pass her along (she is doing great in her new home) I think many colts/fillies don’t know to be afraid of things if they have never been given a reason to, even though we as human tend to assume it’s going to be terrible and awful for some of those “firsts”. I too would be comforted and less concerned about riding her after seeing how she is. ( Right now, I can’t say the same for my hellion!, he has discovered his TB side in the last couple of weeks.. running as fast as he can and tearing around and then slamming on the brakes at the fence line= Heart failure for me)
As for your sister, that is awesome she decided to get in shape and get healthy and now you can enjoy similar interests together. That is always nice!
While ML was doing cool stuff…so were you!
(But we missed you at AERC)
Me too :(. I was actually thinking of the convention the entire weekend.
