As a side note I think all the parts of a horse were designed and put together by a preschooler

Soooo glad ML continues to do better! Let us know what you think of the aloe juice if you decide to use it with ML for ulcer prevention. I’ve wondered about it but haven’t actually used it yet. I think I’m waiting to hear how it works for other people.
Saturday ML update: as of today no morning meds! Just evening antibiotics. Still seems to be doung fine and REALLY enjoys her turn out. Weve been doing some easy lessons in yielding to halter pressure and patiently tieing. Im doing some research on aloe juice. Shes less at risk for ulcers now but would feel better if I could lessen the risk even more until shes back to “normal”. Shes not a stressy horse but these arent normal circumstances and I feel like I need to support her as much as possible
If it were my horse I would absolutely do the same thing re aloe vera juice. No way to know for sure if something’s brewing in the gut without spending more $$, so give her belly a helping hand.
Glad to hear she’s progressing back to health. Hope you are feeling more relaxed now – horse traumas can be so stressful. Maybe you need a swig of that juice too?! ;D
Do you have any personal experience with aloe juice? I’ve never used it….She got her last dose of gastrogard (and banamine) yesterday morning and hadn’t really thought about this until last night/this morning that I would really prefer to (like you put it) continue to give her belly a helping hand for a while. Just because it’s something I can control in a long recovery full of things I can’t control.
I AM feeling more relaxed and OMG it took FOREVER for my stomach to feel better. Maybe I really did give myself an ulcer. Its still hard not to compulsively check on her a million times every day, but I’ve been limiting myself to 2-3x a day and trying to do other stuff.
Just anecdotal info from others, and the internet. Luckily neither me nor the pony have gastro issues, though after four months of daily nsaids for a surgically repaired arm break I was expecting them so did research.
I give my guy a swig of Seabuck 7 daily to keep his belly happy. Check it out – it’s a really interesting supplement,

A woman on a small messageboard I’m on is an ex olympic level dressage groom. They feed the horses 1c of aloe juice a day for ulcer prevention, the horses she groomed for were part of a study that found it worked as well as one of the drugs (I can’t remember the name). I’ll see if I can point her this way.
This sounds very promising!
Hehehe, love this and thanks for laying it out like that, it’s helpful as well as funny 🙂
I was greatly amused
