A deafening silence

I sent my computer into a repair shop to replace the keyboard. About 1 1/2 years ago there was an unfortunate coffee incident and while for a while death of the computer seemed certain, a new $40 hard drive brought it back to life, except for the keyboard. “Ah well,” I said, “I’m only going to get another year or so out o it, I’ll use external keyboards until then”.
But then the computer continued to unction flawlessly, handling new OS upgrade after upgrade without even a suggestion of slowing down.
“Mmmm….” I said. “This whole external keyboard thing is a pain in the ass, what would it take to replace it.”
$200 for the part wasn’t bad, but when I found out that every. Single. Screw. And component had to be removed from the unibody to GET to the keyboard I froze in place like a scared little bunny rabbit.
But then I lost partial vision in my right eye and of everything my wonderful brain has managed to compensate for, it really really REALLY doesn’t like reading electronic text at a distance further away then arm length. Using an external keyboard with the computer wasn’t easy or fun or even that doable and blog posts weren’t easy or fun with all the tension and stress of concentrating on the computer screen.
Did a little MORE research and found a reputable place online that charged $95 in labor in addition to the $200 part.
NINETY FIVE DOLLARS TO REMOVE EVERY STINKIN SCREW AND COMPONENT OUT OF MY COMPUTE AND THEN REPLACE IT???????
Sold. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200……..That’s freakin’ amazing.
So.
The computer arrives back here on Thursday. SO LOOKING FORWARD to it. Apparently my creative writing genius is more suited to writing on a laptop in a comfy recliner or in a lawn chair outside – not at a desk with a desk top. Good to know! Hoping that many more blog posts will follow and we can stay a little more current with each other. :).
Looking forward to Thursday! And yes more blogging from you 🙂
The house HAS to make good blog fodder, I’ve been shocked note see anything ☺
The house is like work or vet school, reliving the drama just isn’t fun.
Btw, “why don’t you try a Bluetooth key board plus your iPad” I’m sure someone is going to ask.
That is how this post was composed and as you can tell transmission of some letters (like the letter “f”) can be sketchy. I type too fast I think and am too hard on keyboards. Haven’t found a Bluetooth that is reliable yet :(.
welcome back. and yes: sometimes letting the pro’s do stuff is easier AND not that spendy. hooray!!!
