I’m Back!!!!!!

A couple weeks ago I sat down to work on a book (yep, a sequel to the first Bar Napkin Book) and my battery started draining FAST. OK, whatever. It’s a seven year old laptop, the battery isn’t what it used to be.
But then, DISASTER. The charger didn’t work. I had SECONDS to desperately shove my book files over to drop box since they were the only files not backed up for the computer was as dead as a door nail. My back up drive quit working a couple months ago and I hadn’t gotten around to replacing it. MISTAKE.
I ordered a battery from ifixit.com.
It came.
I ordered the wrong one.
*headdesk*.
A huge shout-out to IFixIt. Their customer service was WONDERFUL. No fuss return of the wrong battery, sent me a link to the correct one.
While I was waiting for the battery I looked at how much it would cost me to replace my computer if the battery didn’t work. Over a thousand dollars. Ugh o_O. Not in the budget and I could see my ML training plans slipping away.
I got the battery yesterday and….IT WORKED.
I did a serious little happy dance.
I’m off to buy another back up drive today.
To date I’ve replaced the keyboard, harddrive, power adapter, and battery in this computer. It still works great but at some point I’m going to have to replace it. I’m not looking forward to it. I’m going to try the ostrich approach and just pretend that future doesn’t exist and stick my head in the sand for now.
The other lucky break I got was that taxes weren’t a disaster!!!!!! I’m so relieved. I did a really good job with my bookkeeping last year (#adultingsohard) and it paid off. ML will go to the trainers late spring/early summer, we upgraded the family kayak to something that gave Fig her own seat, and threw a bunch of money at my student loans.
The only black spot in life right now is that PT isn’t going as well as it could. The adductor muscle in my groin is still really grumpy and we are reaching that point where I’m not running enough to keep things like my IT band happy, but I’m running too much for the groin. At the beginning of this week we tried taping my right ankle to limit medial motion and I’m doing a couple barefoot runs to see if that gives us any hints on what exactly is triggering the groin since we suspect it’s a compensation issue. The actual runs are going REALLY well. It’s just afterwards that I pay for the run.
I sent the battery back that I ordered in error on Friday and they’ve already processed it and issued my refund! Very impressed ifixit!
Great to have you back- in ALL the ways that go far beyond the computer issues.
Oooo nice fancy kayak!
