Here it is folks – the dress. Train-less (you have no idea how hard that was) in a light comfortable pattern that was extremely flattering. I didn’t realize how much a high neck could elongate a short person (I’m 5’1″) but it was a pleasant surprise how elegant it looked compared to some of the other trends that make me look like a rather aged flower girl.
This was a dress I wasn’t originally considering based on how I thought it would look on me from the online picture. I only tried it on because the sales person took off the rack “just because” since there are not that many dresses available without trains. But after trying on a couple of other options that I had picked out, it was obvious this was the one that fit my criteria. My decision was cemented by a bride that was fitting a bridesmaid for a dress next to me who couldn’t help herself and commented how much she liked this one on me compared to the ones so far.
So, $200 poorer having found a size 4 (the store I was at only had a 6 and a 10) in Texas, my dress should be here the beginning of next week.
The how and the when is still uncertain and knowing my time will be very crunched once I get back into clinics on Monday, getting a dress this week is the one thing I knew I could control and it would make me feel happier about the event if I could mark off that check box.
Yes, I went dress shopping by myself. Matt and I did some dress looking on Saturday, discussed what was important to him (white, at least ankle length or longer) and what was important to me (doesn’t drag the ground, has sleeves – but that’s negotiable, comfortable) and then did some online looking at my options – which weren’t many. Monday I went to the store determined to buy a dress off the rack that day if at all possible and voila! Dress obtained.
Have to admit I’m much more excited about the ceremony now that I know I’ll be wearing a dress that is comfortable in and I feel pretty in!
Please don’t share the contents (and most importantly the pictures!) in these wedding posts. I’m planning on keeping most details secret from the immediate family who will likely be invited to the actual ceremony and want this to be a surprise for them. These posts are for my dear friends and readers who want to share in the excitement of the preparation and who aren’t immediate family :).
A test! to see if comments are public….
It’s so pretty :3
You are going to be the prettiest bride EVAH!
How can I be as excited for your wedding as I am for Funder’s baby?
And yet. Happy.
Thanks guys :). I am so hoping this can just be fun and casual and I can be a bride without a bunch of drama. Funder says I can be on the quarterly cover of the magazine “laidback bride” so I must be succeeding so far!
I was so amused this morning when I realized the purple stripe in my hair from Funder’s first 100 last year was going to show up no matter how I wore my hair. Literally LOL and was sorta pleased.
Oh, that’s so pretty!! I can’t wait to see photos of *you* wearing it, but I can definitely see how that will be a very flattering style for you!
The dress is so pretty. I seems to have been made for you.
So pretty! Just a bit of sparkle. I love how you just went and got a dress, no agonizing for months, just like endurance: make a decision and move on to the next thing.
I am so an endurance rider at heart. Lol. I keep bugging Matt to tell me what suit and shirt he’s going to wear so I know what color my accessories should be! (That’s a new one I think – let the guy dictate the color palate?).
It will be so so so flattering on you. And Matts face. ….omg. He is going to be so amazed.
All of my cocktails dresses are either strapless or some form of backless halter etc. I really wanted this dress to be different and not princess-ey. I think I managed to get a little Greek flair in there, which is funny because I pinned a white dress years ago that was Greek styled and thought to myself “I could get married in this” and then I end up buying one that has a very similar style.
The dress is gorgeous!!! You are going to look stunning! It reminds me of my own wedding dress, which also had a Greek flair. Had the same problem with wanting a dress without a train! Ended up buying a white prom dress that fit the bill. I too shopped by myself…I actually bought the dress online without trying it on and lucked out with it fitting perfectly! Laid back weddings are wonderful because you actually get to have fun. We really loved ours. So excited for you, and looking forward to see how you do yours! 😀
Do you have a picture you could email me of you in your wedding dress? Would love to see it.
OK. Here’s the sneaky reason I want to see you in your dress….The part I’m struggling with right now is accessories and I want to see what jewerly you are wearing etc. >:)
Very pretty!
Oooh, lovely!
I do like your matter-of-fact way of wedding decisions, too. 🙂
Love the dress. I picked mine out in much the same way you did–I totally get the wanting to avoid the endless fussing. I think you will look beautiful–a little bit like a Greek goddess-congraulations to you and Matt!
I love it, it’s perfect for you. Beautiful but not over stated.
Plus I can totally see you dying it some fun color AFTER all the wedding stuff and wearing it again for other functions! It has wonderfully classic and wearable lines.
How funny – you are the third person to spontaneously say that it would look good as “just a dress” if I dyed it afterwards. Can you dye chiffon? Going to google now…
Did some research: it’s a polyester chiffon (as opposed to silk chiffon) dress so it’s not going to dye is some dramatic color, *however* it looks like it is possible to tint the fabric. Tint it to the point where it no longer looks like a wedding dress? possibly – especially if I had it shortened a bit. Mmmm…I see an interesting project post-wedding.
Lovely dress! Elegant and practical. Most importantly is you feeling pretty in it =]
Wow! But in truth, I’m a big fan of gals in jeans and t-shirts…
